What this site collects

Short version: anonymous page-view counts, no cookies, nothing that identifies you.

This is a plain factual description of how Webitlio handles data, kept deliberately short so it can actually be read. It is not a legal document and it is not legal advice.

Analytics

Webitlio uses Umami Cloud (cloud.umami.is) to count page views. It is the only third-party service this site loads anything from, and it was chosen specifically because of what it does not do.

What it records:

  • The page you viewed, and when.
  • The referring page, if you arrived from a link elsewhere.
  • Your country, derived from your IP address at the moment of the request.
  • General device information: browser, operating system, screen size.

What it does not do:

  • No cookies. Nothing is stored on your device, so nothing is read back on your next visit.
  • No persistent visitor identifier. There is no profile, and no way to follow one reader across days.
  • No cross-site tracking. Nothing here follows you to any other website, and no advertising network receives your data.
  • Your IP address is not retained. It is used transiently to derive a country and is not stored.

Why there is no cookie banner

Consent banners exist because of rules on storing and reading information on your device — the ePrivacy Directive, as implemented in UK and EU law. Those rules are triggered by the storage itself, whatever it is called. This site never sets a non-essential cookie and never stores an analytics identifier on your device, so there is nothing to ask you to consent to. A banner here would be theatre.

The one thing this site does store locally is your light or dark theme choice, kept in your browser so the page does not flash on your next visit. It never leaves your device, is never sent anywhere, and disappears when you clear your browser data.

What else is collected

Nothing. There are no accounts, no newsletter sign-up storing your address, no comment system, no contact form, no advertising trackers, and no social media embeds. The site is a set of static pages; there is no database of readers because there is nothing collecting readers.

Reserved advertising space visible on some pages is exactly that — reserved layout. No ad network is connected and no ad network code runs.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Vercel, which — like any web host — processes the requests needed to serve pages to you, including your IP address, in its own server infrastructure and logs.
